James Lewis Kraft

In 1912 James L. Kraft was the first to patent pasteurized cheese. Before Kraft became one of America's most popular brand,it was called J.L. Kraft & Bros. Company. James Kraft was born near Stevensville, Ontario, Canada in 1874. After moving to Chicago in 1903 he started a cheese delivery service. He drove a horse named Paddy and supplied Chicago with dairy groceries. Kraft had to delivery his products early in the morning to keep them from spoiling. As business grew he started his own company. Kraft shredded cheddar, then heated it enough to kill the bacteria. His cheese had a much longer shelf-life. Kraft also created Velveeta in 1928,Miracle Whip in 1933, Macaroni and Cheese in 1937, and many other Kraft creations. I think that Kraft products have helped us move into the future of food.
